Ameobiasis in Cats

Ameobiasis in cats are primarily caused by Entameoeba histolytica. Generally this disease is in either clinical or subclinical form. Although it is a very rare disease of felids, some of the cats are usually suffered from this disease.

It is common in cats which live in houses or developing countries that have poor sanitary conditions.


The symptoms of ameobiasis in cat are fever, greenish diarrhea, abdominal pain, discomfort, vomiting, loose stools, and stomach cramping.

Ameobic symptoms in cat may take about two to four weeks to get cured if it is treated properly.

Sometimes Entamoeba histolytica spreads to brain and lungs also. The cat loses weight and stamina.

You r cat will be provided with either metronidazole followed by erythromycin stearase syrup will contain the disease. Some of the vets are preferring to go for sulfa drugs too control ameobiasis.
