I was wondering when one of my clients asked a question- "Will cats sweat normally when there is sxcess heat?". Yes!!! They do sweat when there is excess heat. Do you know where they can sweat? They sweat on the pads of their feet. That’s why cat leaves moist foot prints on yor dining table (lol) or in your vet’s office.
They will dissipate heat even through panting also. But is is not an ordinary behavior and also less pronounced in cats. They won’t work hard like dogs to get more heat in their body. They will seek cool places and also curling up to retin the body temperature.
How to help your cat during summer?
As you know they have sweat glands only in the pads on their feet, you should support your cat in different ways. You can provide plenty of fresh clean water ad-libidum through out the day. You can add ice cubes in the water to make the water available through out the day.
Sometimes, you can use Water Fountains for Cats. This is an equipment available in the market to dispense fresh water through out the day. This is nothing but automatic water dispenser for cats. You can shop this thing online or in eBay .
